When we think of glacier lakes, the first thought is high altitude. We also imagine days of walking through freezing landscapes. But our perception changed when we trekked to Kapuche Glacier Lake. It is Nepal’s lowest glacier lake and is located at an altitude of 2,546 meters above sea level. It is a perfect destination for anyone seeking to experience adventure quickly. One of the things that remains in our minds during this trek is its stunning turquoise water and peaceful surroundings.
In this blog, I will share how I reached the Kapuche Glacier lake from Pokhara in three days. If you’re planning your adventure, here’s an itinerary I followed.

Day 1: Kaukhola – Sikles – Hugu Goth
When we reached Amarsingh Chowk in Pokhara, we had to head towards Kaukhola, the main starting point for the Kapuche Glacier Lake trek. From Kaukhola, we found a local jeep that would drop us off at Sikles Village.
Our trip kicked off with a 4-hour drive from Kaukhola to Sikles Village, bouncing along scenic roads, with lush green hills and terraced fields keeping me company. Sikles itself was a beautiful Gurung village, one of the largest in the region, where the traditional stone houses and welcoming locals instantly made us feel at home.
After a quick snack in Babita Guest House (because I can’t travel without food!), We set off on foot towards Hugu Goth. The 6-hour walk was challenging, with forests, small streams, and the occasional steep climb—the stunning views made up for our sore legs. We finally arrived at Hugu Goth. There was a tiny settlement that offered just basic essentials. Yet, we were happy to rest our legs and prepare for the adventure the next day.
Day 2: Hugu Goth- Kapuche Glacier lake
We woke up very early while the sky was still full of stars. Our excitement about seeing the Kapuche glacier lake kept us moving. The hike from Hugu Goth to Kapuche took us 3–hours. The trail was mesmerizing, we walked past waterfalls. Then there it was, the Kapuche Glacier Lake shining in the most beautiful turquoise color. Honestly, we were awestruck by its beauty. Luckily, we also had a chance to see a small avalanche fall into the lake.-
We sat there for a very long time appreciating the beauty. We also sang with a group of strangers we met on the trail. After capturing countless photos and memories, we hiked back to Hugu Goth. We had a simple but fulfilling breakfast there, the type that tastes better after a long morning hike. After lunch, we packed our stuff and headed back to Sikles Village.
When we got back to Sikles Village, lunch was already prepared for us at Babita Guest House, where we were staying. The owners were so warm and welcoming that it felt just like home. After giving our tired legs some much-needed rest, we spent the afternoon wandering around Sikles Village. The village was full of laughter and music, with locals singing and enjoying themselves. The views were absolutely beautiful, and it felt like the perfect way to end the day. After soaking it all in, we spent the night there, ready for the journey back.

Day 3: Sikles – Kaukhola
The next morning, after a hearty breakfast of “Kodo ko Sel” and “Chiya” at the guesthouse. After that, we went to the Sikles buspark and hopped in the jeep for the bumpy ride back to Kaukhola, and eventually to Pokhara. We had enough time to explore Pokhara. It was a short and everlasting trip that will always be close to my heart.
